Our customer: Northampton YMCA

 The project: A Single Decker Youth bus

Customer’s brief:

The Northampton YMCA needed to alter their youth bus so they could accommodate for wheelchairs. They needed an area at the rear of the bus to situate the wheelchair and in the middle of the bus an area so they could use a work surface.

Coachbuild Quality’s solution:

Coachbuild Quality replaced the seating at the rear of the bus with fixed bench seating and a removable section for the wheelchair. In the middle of the bus we cut away the cupboards and fabricated a fold down worktop. Also CQ built up the floor level and made a ramp from the lower level to the upper level at the rear of the bus.

CQ needed to:

• Remove cupboards
• Replace the existing seating
• Remove a section of the worktop
•  
• ……and, using bright and practical materials, created:
• A raised floor at the rear of the bus and fabricate a ramp
• Computer desk and seating for wheelchair access
• Fold down work surface

……externally, CQ added:

• New rear bumper and corners
• Two new sprung loaded access flaps

 The outcome:

A youth bus which is now wheelchair user friendly.
