Our customer: Handsworth Play and Community Bus Association ( Birmingham)
The project: A Double Decker Play bus
Customer’s brief:
Handsworth play and community bus association received lottery funding to convert a brand new bus into a playbus for pre-school children in the Aston area of Birmingham. They required a vehicle which would have soft play, quite area, sand & water area and an awning with a stage.
Coachbuild Quality’s solution:
Coachbuild Quality needed to have a meeting with the bus manufacturers to arrange to remove all the seats and destination signs in order to save some money. Once the bus arrived at the workshop we had a few meetings with the customer and together we designed the interior and exterior to suit their requirements.
CQ then proceeded to:
- Fit a water cooled generator
- install heating & lighting systems / roof vents
- Fit carpet to walls / padded ceiling / cupboards
- Fit hardwearing vinyl to lower deck and hardwearing carpet upper deck
-
- ……and, using bright and practical materials, created:
- seating and kitchen area at the front of the upper deck
- disabled access- toilet and baby changing area
- sand/water trays and cupboards
- painting, reading & quiet areas
- play area, soft play and sensory area
……externally, CQ added:
- side awning & staging area
- Fire escape ladder at the rear of the upper deck
- paintwork & vinyl livery
The outcome:
A Playbus which will become a friendly face in the local community
