Our customer: Bath Community
Bus Association (c/o Bath District Council )
The project: A double-decker playbus
Customer’s brief:
Bath Community Bus Association had to purchase and fit a double decker
bus with limited funds. The bus had to cater for young children and possible
community meetings in the district of Bath and the surrounding area.
Coachbuild Quality’s solution:
The limited budget dictated the use of a second-hand double-decker
bus and with CQ’s help and advice, a suitable vehicle was located
and purchased at the right price for their budget requirements.
CQ then proceeded to:
- strip the double -decker back to a shell
- Fit a water cooled generator
- install heating & lighting systems / roof vents
- Fit carpet to walls / padded ceiling / cupboards
- Disabled hydraulic ramp at the front of the bus
-
- ……and, using bright and practical materials, created:
- seating and kitchen area at the front of the upper deck
- disabled access- toilet and baby changing area
- sand/water trays and cupboards
- painting, reading & quiet areas
- play area
……externally, CQ added:
- side awning
- Fire escape ladder at the rear of the upper deck
- paintwork & vinyl livery
The outcome: A playbus which would cater for the
whole of the Bath community.

Our customer’s comments:
Chris Scragg (Community Development Officer) “The adults think
the bus is really plush and the kids just love it full stop! You really
took on board what we wanted plus you came up with some good suggestions.
The quality of the work and communication with me was excellent and you
gave me a price and stuck to it”.
